Headaches - are they effecting you?

You are not alone!

The main cause of headaches is tension, which accounts for about 90% of all cases. Tension headaches are typically caused by tight muscles in the neck, scalp, shoulders, and jaw, often triggered by stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, or poor posture.

I help clients to reduce the tension around the base of the head and jaw with Craniosacral Therapy which gently allows the body to release it.

Headaches facts

Headaches are generally broken down into two categories: Primary (the condition itself) and Secondary (symptoms of an underlying illness).

Primary Headaches

These result from overactivity or issues with pain-sensitive structures in the head, including nerves, blood vessels, and muscles.

  • Tension Headaches: The most common type, often feeling like a tight band around the head. Triggers include stress, fatigue, dehydration, and caffeine withdrawal.

  • Migraines: Thought to be caused by abnormal brain activity that affects nerves and blood vessels. They cause severe, throbbing pain often accompanied by nausea or sensitivity to light.

  • Cluster Headaches: Rare but extremely painful headaches that occur in cyclical patterns, usually focused behind one eye.

Secondary Headaches

These are symptoms of another distinct medical condition. Common causes include:

  • Dehydration or skipped meals

  • Sinus infections or colds/flu

  • Eye strain or poor eyesight

  • Medication overuse (taking too many painkillers can cause rebound headaches)

  • Hormonal changes (menstruation or menopause in women)
